Course objectives
The one-semester lecture course aims to draw attention to the key stages of internal changes and also the external position of the Czech lands within the power field of Central Europe. Therefore, attention is paid to the comparison with the development of the surrounding state units, and in addition to the main axis formed by political history, constitutive elements from the economic, social, cultural and administrative areas are also taken into account. Due to the extent of the time allowance, the lectures are largely conceived as a guide to the trends of research in contemporary medieval studies and ongoing discussions. For all topics it is possible to name the dispute over the (non) Kosmas´s image of the Czech state, parallels of Central European development yes or no, the conflict over the monarchical or estate image of the Czech state, privatization of the 13th century versus transformation of the Czech lands, Hussites as a crisis of the medieval world versus the Reformations, etc. Lists of recommended literature as well as current titles, which students will be made aware of in individual lectures, correspond to this assignment.
