Prerequisites
Student by se měl orientovat v historickém přehledu nejen literárním, ale také obecně kulturním, a to z hlediska světové literatury i české literatury. Měl by umět rozlišovat mezi ineditní a neineditní literaturou. Na předmětu by měl zúročit své čtenářské zkušenosti i schopnost analyzovat literární texty.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with individual genres and works of children's literature so that they are able to use in practice this literature in all its functions to the all-round development of children and youth, to the development of their aesthetic sensitivity, emotional aspects of personality and the development of their literary consciousness. Emphasis is also placed on the development of children's reading offering adequate literature.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will not only be familiar with the basic historical overview of world and Czech literature for children and youth, but will also get acquainted with the genre stratification of literature and its specifics.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to literature for children and youth. The beginnings of literature for children and young people
  • 2. Specifics of children's literature. Means of expression and function of children's literature
  • 3. Basic questions of genology, overview of the most frequent genres and genre forms.
  • 4. Folk tale and its literary equivalent. Characteristics and classification of a folklore fairy tale, its collectors and publishers in Czech and world literature
  • 5. Modern / author's fairy tale - characteristics of the genre, specifics of the Czech literary context
  • 6. Poetry for children. Typology of Czech poetry for children, developmental tendencies.
  • 7. Folk literature as a starting point for children's literature, small folklore formations, children's folklore, folklore theories. 8. Contemporary poetry for children.
  • 9. Story prose with a child hero - genre development, main characters. Adventure prose.
  • 10. Prose with a girl heroine - transformations of a girl heroine, pitfalls of the genre.
  • 11. Historical and biographical prose for children and youth.
  • 12. Sci-fi and fantasy literature and their attractiveness for children and youth.

Teaching methods
Základem výuky jsou přednášky a následná samostatná četba a anylýza vybraných textů.
Assessment methods
Seminar work - analysis of a selected title for children or youth. Oral exam, the student submits a list of read literature.
