Course objectives
Introduction to the issue of knowledge organization. Introduction to the theoretical foundations of knowledge organization systems at linguistic, logic and semiotics. Special attention is devoted to syntax and paradigmatic relations of lexical units, because paradigmatic relations belong to controlled vocabularies of retrieval languages inherently. Outlining the practical application. A brief overview of the development of the classification of science. Mastering the methods and skills of content analysis. Understanding automatic content analysis methods.

Teacher's information
Essays for each given topics deepening basic knowledge of lectures will be required. The seminar will be practicing removal of asymmetries in language signs (ambiguity of language) by indexing. If for any reason listeners will not participate on exercise, there will be simple test of removing the synonymy and homonymy as the part of the examination. Exams will be oral, for the case of more students, there is possibility to arrange written tests. (The test will contain four questions overall). The oral exam will consists of two questions, or additional questions. Given that the course followed by retrieval language 2 in summer semester, the testing will be completed in the winter examination period.
