Prerequisites
General orientation in culture at the level of secondary school knowledge. Basic knowledge of language and literary communication and ICT. Knowledge of cultural history.

Course objectives
Learning objective The aim of the course is to introduce the student to the issue of librarianship and current topics and trends related to library management. The listener is introduced to the basic terms and processes that take place in memory institutions, then to the legislation necessary to ensure the activities of libraries, and last but not least, to the technologies that are currently used to provide library services. Syllabus - blocks 1. Library as a memory institution, types of libraries in the Czech Republic and in the EU, basic legislative provision for the operation of memory institutions, the role of libraries in the information policy of the Czech Republic. 2. The library as a system for receiving, processing, preserving and distributing information and knowledge. Main, secondary and management processes in libraries according to the type of library. 3. Library and information services – primary, secondary, tertiary and additional library services, library services for specific types of users. Competence of workers in memory institutions, overview of activities and roles necessary to ensure library operation. 4. Information and communication technologies in memory institutions – Automated library systems, online library catalogs, exchange of library metadata including international exchange, metadata standards, documentographic and factual information systems, digitization and digital libraries, technologies for the protection of library collections. 5. The library as a service center for communities - community libraries and their concept, function and mission of community libraries in the Czech Republic, the EU and the world.

  • Syllabus - blocks 1. Library as a memory institution, types of libraries in the Czech Republic and in the EU, basic legislative provision of operation of memory institutions, the role of libraries in the information policy of the Czech Republic. 2. The library as a system for receiving, processing, storing and distributing information and knowledge. Main, secondary and management processes in libraries with regard to the type of library. 3. Library-information services - primary, secondary, tertiary and supplementary library services, library services for specific types of users. Competences of staff in memory institutions, an overview of activities and roles necessary to ensure the operation of the library. 4. Information and communication technologies in memory institutions - Automated library systems, on-line catalogs of libraries, exchange of library metadata including international exchange, metadata standards, documentary and factual information systems, digitization and digital libraries, technologies for protection of library collection. 5. The library as a center of services for communities - community libraries and their conception, functions and mission of community libraries in the Czech Republic, the EU and in the world.

Teaching methods
Lecture, interpretation, illustrative methods, illustration, independent creative work in making available trends according to the teacher's instructions, presentations, lectures, discussions.
Assessment methods
Exam - Test approx. 200 questions from the range of study materials provided. Respondents. 20 individually selected questions. Point evaluation. It is not possible to register for the exam without handing in the seminar paper (range of 5-10 standard pages). The exam is conducted as an oral debate over the drawn circuit. Attendance at lectures/seminars at least 75%.
