Course objectives
The lectures provide a basic insight into the history of art from the beginnings of the artistic expression of mankind to the second half of the 20th century; they are designed in order to enable history students to think about art in the context of cultural history.
Learning outcomes
The student will get acquainted with the basic development tendencies and styles of European art and visual culture, and will be able to independently think about problems related to the dominant styles of European art culture, better understand the relationships between different types of art and philosophical, religious or ideological systems. Emphasis will be placed on the Czech lands. In addition, student will understand the similarities and differences between the methods of general, cultural, and art historiography.
