Přednáška zahrnuje historii této rychle se rozvíjející disciplíny od jejích počátků u Ch. Morrise, přes indexické výrazy a presupozice ke Griceovu kooperativnímu principu a Leechovu zdvořilostnímu principu. Zabývá se také pragmatickými jevy, které byly zkoumány už dříve, ale byly pojmenovány jiným způsobem (hlavně při funkčním pohledu na jazyk). Náplní semináře jsou referáty a následné diskuse založené na relevantní odborné literatuře ve formě časopiseckých článků a studií. Sylabus přednášky: 1. Ch. Morris a jeho tři aspekty znakového systému: syntaktika, sémantika a pragmatika. 2. Tápání ohledně pragmatické dimenze, indexické výrazy, postoje, jiné 3. Deixe, osobní, časová, místní, diskurzní, společenská 4. Presupozice a konverzační implikace 5. Searlova teorie řečových aktů 6. Griceův kooperační princip a jeho zásady 7. Systematické porušování kooperačního principu v každodenní konverzaci 8. Leechův zdvořilostní princip a parametry výhody a zátěže 9. Zásada taktu a zásada velkorysosti v Leechově zdvořilostním principu 10. Zásada oceňování a zásada skromnosti v Leechově zdvořilostním principu 11.
