Cílem předmětu je poskytnout posluchačům základní rozhled a orientaci v problematice amerických lingvoreálií, upozornit na základní politické, kulturní a sociální aspekty života v USA s důrazem na to, co je specifické pro Spojené státy. Po absolvování kurzu má být posluchač schopen samostatně se orientovat v oboru amerických studií a v odborné literatuře a sám se v této oblasti dále vzdělávat. Vše je založeno na historickém vývoji. Sylabus: 1. Colonial America and American population 2. American revolution and American government 3. American expansion and geography of the USA 4. Between the revolution and the Civil War, history of slavery and abolitionism, the Civil War 5. The Reconstruction, the Gilded Age and American education 6. America at the beginning of the 20th century, American Empire and American economy 7. America at war in the 20th century - WW 1, WW 2, Korea, Vietnam 8. Cold war, Gulf war, War against terrorism 9.
