Course objectives
In this course you will learn the basic knowledge of OS Windows from installation, running, classification of OS up to hardware setup and maintance. After this course you will have learned the key concepts of operating systems. Lectures and seminars pay attention to the relationships between technology and its reflection by contemporary society. The emphasis is placed on the transformation of adopting technical improvements and inventions taking as a paradigm and oscillating between fascination and strict rejection. Besides technical innovations is part of the course paid to the role of technology in shaping modern mass culture, to the initial efforts to capture and reproduce a motion from the 17th century onwards (the Magic Lantern, a stroboscope and so on) and in particular to the technological development in the 19th century, which resulted in the invention of cinematography. In addition to the sketching of partial technical innovation the audience would be acquainted with the gradual development of the film production and shows from the very beginning to the 20s of the 20th century, including their social, economic and cultural impacts. The part of the course would be also preview screenings of selected early works of Czech and world cinema.

    3. Classification of OS - multitasking, hypertrading, singleprocesing, multiprocesing, multi-user
    4. Structure of the OS, kernel, memory maintance, etc.
    5. File system - FAT, FAT32, NTFS
    6. Virtualization
    7. Security of the computer and the OS.Course abbreviation: UF/OP100
