Course objectives
The overview of the basic set of auxiliary sciences of history in the context of work with sources and methods of historical research with the accent on analysis, criticism and interpretation. Disciplines: palaeography (subject, terminology, development of handwriting with regard to the Czech Lands, reading of historical texts), chronology (subject, development of calendar, conversion of dates), metrology (subject, development of measurement systems and units in the Czech Lands), genealogy (subject, concepts, sources of genealogical research and their utilization), diplomatics (subject, terminology, classification of official documents - characteristics, analysis and processing, development of diplomatic material and offices in the Czech Lands), codicology (subject, non-official manuscripts in the Czech Lands, development of libraries), epigraphy (subject, terminology, classification), sigillography (subject, terminology, description and development of seals in the Czech Lands), heraldy (subject, terminology, blazoning, development and use of coats of arms in the Czech Lands) and numismatics (subject, terminology, development of currency in the Czech Lands). The overview of literature, source editions concerning the history of the Czech Lands and central Europe, basic procedures when preparing editions (archeography).
