- The course is a practically oriented one with a theoretical fundamentals focused on the description of the basic principles of English idioms.

1. Basic issues and viewpoints
2. Traditional typology of multi-word expressions
3. Forming idioms
4. Form and structure: stability and variability
5. Semantic characteristics
6. Semantic and formal relations among idioms
7. Function and usage of idioms
8. Geographical varieties: British and American usage
9. English and Czech idiomacy: Contrastive approach
10. English and Czech idiomacy: Translatological approach
11. Stylistic limitations
12. Issues connected with Dictionaries of Idioms

1. General classification approach: Phrasal verbs, collocations, multi-word expressions, proverbs and idioms

4. Characteristic features and categorization

8. English idioms - contrastive approach
9. English idioms - translatological approach
