- Course objectives
- The course focuses on conceptual modelling of databases, advanced DB technologies such as distributed DBS (DDBS) and Data Warehouse (DW) for their utilization in managerial decision making. The aim is to understand the use of DDBS and DW technologies, their theoretical background, practical design and deployment.
- Syllabus
- 1. Conceptual modelling of databases: Entity-Relation-Modelling
2. Conceptual modelling of databases: semantic models, anchor modelling
3. Distributed Database Systems, architectures, data replication, data fragmentation, data allocation
4. Classification of information systems, OLTP and OLAP technologies
5. Introduction to Data Warehouse technology
6. Environment of DW and their architecture
7. DW: data models used, types of schemes
8. DW - multidimensional view on data creation description
9. DW: internal data models
10. Recent development in warehousing
