Course objectives
The listeners will be familiarized with the present state of scientific and technical presentation of collections in Czech museums and abroad as well as with the methods and procedures of professional documentation, evidence, preservation and presentation of collections in museums of Science and Technology.
Syllabus
  • 1. History of industrial and technical branches with emphasis on the Czech lands and middle Europe (mining, metallurgy, steel industry, coking industry, textile industry, brewing industry, sugar industry, historical meaning of the atmospheric and steam engine, development of wind-mill and water engines)
    2. The category of scientific-technical museums (museums of Technology, museums of Industry, museums of Companies, museums of Traffic, Mathematical-physical museums, Mining museums, technical monuments, programme-focused centres)
    3. Scientific and technical collections in museums and installed objects. Historical and museum value of the documents of the development of Technology and Science. Methods and approach towards the professional documentation, administration, evidence and preservation of scientific and technical monuments and collections. Documentation of development of Science, Technology and industrial production, the publication outputs included.
    3. Presentation, exposition and exhibitions of scientific and technical collection. Present state of presentation of scientific and technical collections in Czech museums and abroad.
    4. Technical means in museum presentation of scientific and technical collections. Strategy of presentation in museum of Science and Technology. Interactive exhibits in museums of Science, Technology and educatory centres.
