- Course objectives
- The course works with topics from history of European Fine Arts as painting, sculpting and architecture from ancient ages till present. It will consider formal parametres of each historical style as well as its philosophical, social and cultural context. Course includes sightseeing tours around Czech art history wellknown sights as well. It specializes in National Gallery collections of art and most important architectural sights in Prague. It will enrich student's basic information about preservation of monuments. Students will get also introduction to theory of Fine Arts and thoughts of the most important art theorists from Czech republic and around the Word, as well as summary of the historical process of aesthetics and art history.
- Syllabus
- The course will review various styles of historical periods in European visual arts. We will focus on
1, cultural, historical and social context,
2, charactestistics of each style and its connection to history of art,
3, famous artists and their influence on development of ideas in visual arts,
4, chronological definitions, heritage of the epoch for present times.
The students need to know characteristics of European styles of visual arts, understand connection between the period philosophy and the art expression. The students are required to name the famous artists and famous works of European art.
