- Course objectives
- Basic overview of conservation and restoration of museum collections to date - Theoretical basis of the intervention, experts, professional organization, communication methods, the development of education. The seminars will be developed on the base of consolidated knowledge of theoretical lectures on material culture. Students will be familiar with a lot of technical terms in different areas of materials and material culture, the focus of seminars would be on practical application of knowledge in specific subjects, particularly of the type with which they may encounter in museums and other memory institutions (e. g. liturgical objects and Latin church vestments, the basic terms of the architecture, castellology, jewellery, art-crafts, crafts, guilds and guild items, etc.).

- 1. Foundations of the Christian faith and the basic concepts associated with Christianity and their reflection in the material culture.
2. Book illumination as a source of knowledge about the material culture of the Middle Ages.
3. Aspects of material culture associated with the churches and monasteries.
4. Aspects of material culture associated with the Church - liturgical instruments, liturgical books, Latin Church vestments etc.
5. Aspects of material culture associated with crafts and urban status.
6. Material culture connected with the guilds in towns.
7. Aspects of material culture associated with the aristocracy and nobility.
8. Aspects of material culture associated with royal power.
9. Basic concepts of castellology, architecture and building culture in the Middle Ages and early modern period.
10. Objects of the everyday life in the Middle Ages and in early modern period.
11. Culture of living in the late Middle Ages and in early modern period.
12. Monuments of the material culture and museums.
