Course objectives
The lectures deal with the formative word-building as well as the question of the meaning of words in connection with their form and function in the text. The seminars focus on the systematic and practical application of the theory. Emphasis is on extensive work with lexis in connection with language varieties.

    3. Semantics of words and contextual relations
    4. Syntagmatic delimitations of lexical units
    5. Paradigmatic delimitaton of lexical units
    6. Word and its environment
    7. Collocation
    8. Polysemy
    9. Lexical configuration: hierarchy, polarity, synonymy
    10. General meaning and terminology
    11. Lexico-semantic characteristics of specialized languages
    12. Criteria of word selection when working with specialized languages

    3. Productive suffixes and word classes
    4. Prefixes and creating new meanings
    5. Phrasal verbs: two approaches
    6. Collocations: adjective and noun, verb and adverb, adverb and adjective, verb and object
    7. Word register: formal and informal, speech and writing, synonymy, outdated words
    8. Professional language 1: Sciences
    9. Professional language 2: Accounting
    10. Professional language 3: Computing
