- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- In this course the optical phenomena like profiled spectral lines, light curves, images of distant sources etc. are discussed in the framework of General theory of Relativity.
- Syllabus
- Null geodesics in curved spacetimes
Spherically symmetric and axially symmetric metric,
geodesic equation, geodesic deviation equation, integrals of motion, Carter's equations,
deflection angle in Schwarzchild field
Optical quantities: definition and expanation of basic terms
frequancy shift of radiation,
intensity of radiation,
radiation flux, focusing
Optical effects : definition and modeling
light escape cone of source, silhouette of compact object ,
light curve of point source in the field of compact object,
profiled spectral lines of thin ring and disc, caustic
Radiation transfer in medium : equation of radiative transfer,
Image of thin Keplerian ring : algorithm of thin ring image construction
Image of thick disk : algorithm of thick disk image construction
Numerical solution of equations of motion:
solving polynomiand and transcendent equations,
integration of diferential equations, Runge-Kutha method,
enumeration of integrals, Rommberg's method, Gauss quadrature,
usage of GSL(GNU Scientific Library) , use of Mathematica and Maxima programs for optical phenomena study.
