- Students will acquire basic knowledge in the field of nature conservation and landscape in regional and global scale.
- Syllabus
- 1. Interdisciplinary approach to the protection of nature and landscape. Philosophical background of conservation. Ethical principles of conservation. Historical development of nature conservation. Conservation biology, or conservation biology.
2. Biological Diversity. The value of biodiversity. Instrumental (utility) value. The intrinsic value. Measuring biodiversity. Alfa diversity. Beta diversity. Gamma diversity.
3. Diversity of species, genetic, communities and ecosystems. A number of species. Diversity of species richness. Factors responsible for the distribution of diversity. Rovnoběžkový gradient of species richness. Geographical distribution of endemic species.
4. Threats to biological diversity. Speed ??extinction. Causes of extinction. The causes of endangerment of species extinction. Factors important in terms of vulnerability to extinction.
5. The main risk factors of biodiversity on Earth. Global climate change, decay and destruction of habitats (habitat). The invasion of non-native species. Hunting and trade. Diseases. Secondary causes of extinction.
6. Protection to the species level and population. Conservation Strategy, ex situ (zoos, botanical gardens and arboreta, aquaria). Legal protection of species and international agreements species protection.
7. Protection at the level of communities. Protected areas. Corridors. National Ecological Network (territorial systems of ecological stability). Ecological networks in Europe.
8. History of nature and landscape in the Czech Republic. Nature protection and landscape in the country. Legislative ensure the protection of nature and landscape in the country.
9. Management of protected areas. Ecosystem management and ecological restoration.
10. Nature conservation and sustainable development. Sustainable development and international approaches to conservation.
11. International activities and cooperation agreement in the field of natural heritage. The objectives and tasks of the international nature conservation. The main reasons why we need international protection of nature. The development of an international nature protection. International conventions, programs, initiatives and institutions.
12. Global priorities for the protection of species richness. Red lists and books.
Problems setting real priorities on a global scale. Towards financial resources.
