Course objectives
This course is focused on students who are going to working in the tourism field. The course provides an overview of the history of the Austrian art and culture. The lecture content are based on an online course.
Syllabus
  • 1. tourism in Austria. Austrian tourist office, demand on sustainable offers, situation of tourism worldwide, tendencies in the Czech Republic)
    2. Austrian Art History 1 (reflection of art appreciation, romanticism, gothic)
    3. Austrian Art History 2 (renaissance, baroque)
    4. Austrian Art History 3 (classicism, Biedermeier, historism, secession)
    5. Austrian Art History 4 (modern architecture, ecological building)
    6. Fine arts of the 20th century (basic terminology, overview of the 20th century painting, Viennese actionism)
    7. Austria as a musical country (about the king of waltz, critical and rebellious music and current trends)
    8. Austrian wine culture (wine growing areas and kinds of wine)
    9. Austrian cooking culture (Viennese cuisine and regional specialities)
    10. Viennese coffee house culture (history of coffee in Vienna, Besonderheiten and specialities of the Vienna coffee house culture, coffee house writers)
    11. Austrian German as a pluricentric language with characteristics in the pronunciation, grammar and Austrian lexicon
    12. Austrian literature (famous poets of the 19th Century, literature after 1945, contemporary literature)
