Course objectives
In this course we deal with using of information systems, communication and visualization technologies, virtual reality and other areas of informatics in medicine. During the course students visit an excursion in hospital for practical show of used technologies.
Syllabus
  • 1. Role of IS in medicine -definition, history, goals, hardware and software
    2. Acquisition systems (modalities) - EKG, CT, US, MRI, PET, SPECT, etc. and brief description
    3. Communication and data standards in medicine - DICOM 3.0 (role, principle, displaying of images), HL7, communication in medicine
    4. DICOM 3.0: definition of objects, SOP classes, net layer, UL protocol, services, formats for archiving, DIMSE
    5. Processing and visualization of biosignals and medical images (EKG, EEG, CT, MR, US)
    6. IS in medicine - IS for hospitals, radiological IS (RIS), systems for archivation and communication, laboratory IS, hospital without paper and films, integration of IS
    7. IHE and its role to workflow, information flow among medical centers, DICOM for IHE, security
    8. Telematics - teleradiology, teleconsultation, used transfer media, protocols, security policies, standards for telemedicine, videostreaming FullHD, law aspects for IS in medicine
    9. Virtual reality systems in medicine and virtual remote navigation for interventions
    10. Systems for assisted analysis of laboratory and image medical data
    11. Implementation of artificial intelligence in medicine (expert systems, sensors, etc.), using ANN
    12. Excursion to a radiological center
