Course objectives
Lectures will focus on Czech and foreign legislative documents, government policy materials, strategies, declarations and international recommendations (IFLA, UNESCO, European Union) for librarianship. Attention will be paid to changes, directives and draft laws.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- identify the essence of legislation in the field of library and information;
- identify and describe the current basic legislation in the Czech Republic, in connection with EU legislation;
- describe factors and elements of legislation in the field of librarianship and information science;
- compare and specify differences in the legislative regulation of library issues;
- practically use basic legislative principles in library practice.

  • Library legislation - international development and harmonization in the Czech Republic
  • Historical development of library laws in the Czech Republic - essential characteristics
  • Development of other legal regulations valid for library and information institutions
  • Legislation on mandatory publication - characteristics, definition and practical application
  • Copyright and related documents Government concepts and strategies for the development of libraries in the Czech Republic - starting points, theses and principles
  • Application of concepts and strategies in practice and in the practical activities of libraries in the Czech Republic.
