Course objectives
The course focuses on the development of English short story writing in the 19th and 20th centuries. It provides an overview of the work of influential authors of short stories and then allows students to introduce important short stories of English literature, especially in terms of analysis of texts and their cultural and social context.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to define the basic features of the short story as a literary genre and will know important representatives of British and American short stories and their major works. He will be able to analyze short literary texts, apply basic narratological concepts in this analysis and use relevant secondary sources.
