Course objectives
As part of the course, students will be introduced to the basics of the field of archaeometry, which uses natural science and technology methods studies artifacts, populations and environments in the past. It also includes methods of absolute dating and conservation archaeological findings.
Learning outcomes
Basic orientation in the field of archaeometry.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic terminology of analytical methods. 2. Methods of sampling and collecting findings in situ. 3. Optical microscopy methods. 4. Electron microscopy methods. 5. Methods of x-ray irradiation. 6. CT, micro-CT and nano-CT imaging methods. 7. Methods of spectral analyses. 8. Dating methods. 9. Chemical analyzes of bones. 10. Petrographic analysis of ceramics, stone and mortar. 11. Metallography of iron and non-ferrous metals. 12. Methods of conservation of archaeological findings. 13. Other methods.
