Course objectives
The subject acquaints students with accretion process taking place, typically, in binary systems, whereas the knowledge of general relativity fundamentals is assumed.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- understand formation of spectra from binary systems,
- be able to model and analyze spectra from binary systems

  • - Spherical and disk accretion, relativistic accretion
  • - Marginally stable orbit and orbital motion period scaling
  • - Accretion disks and radiation pressure, magnetic field
  • - Low-mass and high-mass relativistic binary systems
  • - Galactic systems with white dwarfs, cataclysmic variable stars
  • - Galactic systems with black holes, micro quasars
  • - Galactic systems with neutron stars, accretion millisecond pulsars
  • - Spectra and variability and their models
  • - Compact objects parameters
  • - Extragalactic binary systems
