The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course is focused on intercultural social and interpersonal communication in the conditions of current internationalization, globalization and cultural divergence. The concept of national culture and their peculiarities and differences from various national cultures are explained as a way out of approach to effective intercultural communication. The comprehension of various models of national culture and cultural divergence as well as rules of management of cultural divergence and its common effect i. e. cultural shock - in the concept of anthropology, intercultural psychology and intercultural management - is the condition of effective acting and interpersonal communication in intercultural situations. The intercultural competences are important counterpart of these approaches. The course deals with their delimitation, division and development in detail.

  • 1. Internationalization and globalisation, factors of global environment, intercultural interactions and relations
    2. Cultural dimensions of environment and concept of national culture - their definitions, parts, characteristic features and formation, national cultural peculiarities
    3. National identity, national cultural prejudice, stereotypes and peculiarities
    4. Intercultural psychology, its role, concept and contribution to effective intercultural communication
    5. Role of intercultural communication from the point of view of international and intercultural management
    6. Features of national cultures, their development and meaning with regard to effective intercultural communication
    7. Fundamental cultural differences in the concept of E. T. Hall and their importance for intercultural communication
    8. A five-dimensional model of national culture of G. Hofstede and cultural dimension of F. Trompenaars
    9. Attitudinal dimensions of national culture and conviction as a factor of intercultural dimensions
    10. Meeting the cultural divergence, issue of cultural shock and its overcoming, intercultural comprehension
    11. Strategy and repertory of intercultural behaviour and overcoming of repertory limitations
    12. Intercultural competences, their division and development, strategy of development of intercultural competences

Seminar work in the extent of circa 3-5 pages on the topic of intercultural communication, description and interpretation of personal experience of student with national cultural differences, experience from meeting cultural divergence and overcoming cultural shock, development and attesting intercultural competences etc. - presented in the frame of seminar.
