- Course objectives
- LECTURE To acquaint students with the theory of minorities and their position in society. On the basis of ethnological, historical, sociological, psychological, cultural and comparative, political and other knowledge, students will be able to reflect on relations between majority populations and ethnic minorities, including the evaluation of social myths and prejudices. Lectures further illuminate the basic concepts of ethnic theory in light of the results of current research approaches and pitfalls of social intervention in the situation of minorities. Attention will also be paid to selected specific minority groups, refugee issues, the legal stay of foreigners and asylum policy.

1st Basic concepts of ethnicity theory, basic resources and literature.
2nd The issue of globalization, migration and multiculturalism in today's world.
3rd Refugees and migration routes to the European continent.
4th The legislative framework for the problems of minorities and migrants.
5th Statistics in the Republic relating to refugees and minorities.
6th Development and current problems of ethnic minorities in the country.
7th Pitfalls of co-existence with the majority of minorities.
8th The Roma community in the country.
9th Ukrainian and Russian minority.
10th Vietnamese minority.
11th Education and health care of foreigners for foreigners in the CR, crime of foreigners.

The test - preparation of lectures and required reading
Students prepare two papers in the length of 5 pages. The choice ofthe topic is defined within the established lines of the course content of the seminars for full-time study. Each student selects one topic and notifies the teacherwithin 14 days by e-mail. The literature from which learners will draw will be a minimum of 3 titles from the list of required reading and 1 title from the list of the recommended reading. The basic criterion for assessing the quality of the paper will be the demonstration of the ability to work with specialized texts, with appropriate emphasis on linking individual author's thesis into a coherent logical framework. The date of sending the assignment is always at the start of the semester and is mandatory. Evaluation and feedback will be provided by the teacher via e-mail, through individuas and group consultations. Successful completion of the assignment is a prerequisite for obtaining credit.
