Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with basics of selected parts of biophysics and its use in the field of medical diagnostic and treatment methods. The course describes biophysical principles which are used in medical and nursing practice. Besides thermodynamics, cell biophysics, organ and sensory biophysics, the course deals with ionization and protection against its effects. After finishing the course the student will be well informed about the connection between measured biosignals (EKG) or physiological functions (blood pressure, temperature) and biophysical mechanisms which determine them in an organism. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student acquires knowledge of physical differences of individual methods and their biological effects. They will get to know types of these methods and instruments which are used for measurement. Professional skills: The student is able to interpret physiological values or biosignals. General ability: The student is able to describe and explain thermoregulation of organisms, functions of organs and tissues from biophysical point of view. The student is able to describe types of ionization and possible protective measures. Competence: The student interprets taken physiological values as consequence of biophysical effects. The student is able to suggest protection against unwanted influence of the environment, such as noise, mechanical influence and ionization. The student acquires basic information about work in controlled zone.
