- Course objectives
- The course aims to provide students with information and skills in the field of nursing paradigm. The student learns procedures of systematic assessment of client/patient according to selected suitable conceptual framework with planning, implementation and re-evaluation of nursing care. The student acquires knowledge and skills of practical use of nursing philosophy, conceptual models and theories applicable in nursing care with focus on critical thinking.
- Syllabus
- Lectures:
1. Paradigm in nursing. Nursing as a scientific discipline. Basic terms - concept, model, framework, theory, philosophy. Relation of philosophy, models, theories to methodology of nursing.
2. Nursing philosophy, models, theories - categories of nursing philosophy, theories and models. Differences of nursing philosophy, theories and models.
3. Philosophical work in nursing.
4. Theory of nursing - mid-range and grand.
5. Nursing models.
Seminars:
1. Systematic assessment of client/patient using philosophical works (Nightingale, Watson, Benner, Ray, Martinsen, Eriksson).
2. Systematic assessment of client/patient using conceptual models (Johnson, King, Levine, Neuman, Orem, Rogers, Roy).
3. Systematic assessment of client/patient using nursing theories (Orlando, Pender, Newman, Parse, Leininger, Erickson, Tomlin, Swain, Husted, Mercer).
