- Course objectives
- Course Goal The subject deals with the issues of economic and administrative transformation of Czech regions and their integration in the framework of the Central European context. Above all, it is to familiarize students with the post-Velvet Revolution development from the perspective of the transformation, especially from the perspective of economic development. It introduces the individual steps of privatization, first within the framework of the common state and then, after the division of Czechoslovakia. The subsequent interpretation focuses on the actual development in the context of the Czech Republic, as influenced by the development of the transformation under external influences, political developments, and the subsequent economic impact. It retrospectively introduces to and evaluates the individual steps of the transformation of time, using statistical outputs and expert opinions. They then present the actual effects of transformation on the changes in employment structures, the effect on the development of individual regions and the impact on the population. In this context, then, they try to explain the share of local governments and the role of regional organizations in these processes. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: Students gain professional knowledge from the perspective of transformation and restructuring in the Czech Republic and learn about the interconnectedness of individual transformation steps with the development of society, including the impact of these changes on the economy of the state, political development, on the population and autonomy of individual regions and municipalities. Professional Skills: Students are able to obtain an independent critical opinion on the development of the transformation of Czech regions. They acquire knowledge of the development of the transformation of Czech regions after 1989. They are able to understand the effects of individual steps of the transformation on the development of national economy and the subsequent impact on the population, including the position of local administrative units. Students can find relevant information and on the basis of established methodological and topical conditions produce a term paper related to the transformation of the Czech regions. General Qualification: Students will gain knowledge fulfilling methodical, formal and content criteria for writing scientific papers. They will acquire their own critical attitude to the presented problems. Competences: Students will acquire skills in gathering information on the issue of transformation of Czech regions.

- 1. The situation in Czechoslovakia at the end of 1980s - The positives and negatives. The structure of the economy and economic growth. Monetary sector - banking, insurance. Enterprises - micro-economic sector. Legal system. Political system. State of the society.
2. Political developments after 1990 - Election to the Federal Assembly in June 1990. Electoral system. The June 1992 Election to the Czech National Assembly. Division of the country as of January 1st 1993. The 1996 Election to the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic. The 1998 Early Election to the Chamber of Deputies. The 2002 Election to the Chamber of Deputies. The 2006 Election to the Chamber of Deputies. The 2010 Election to the Chamber of Deputies.
3. Transformation Strategy - The Proposed strategy of transition to market economy. Strategy of the economic reform. Implementation of economic transformation.
4. The basic steps of transformation - The economic recession of 1990-1993. Renewal and growth 1994-1996. Recession 1997-1999. Renewal and growth 2000-2003.
5. Changing ownership relations - Proposals on the scope of restitution. Consent on the rules and scope of restitution. The course of restitution.
6. Small-Scale Privatization - The period of the small-scale privatization process. Scope of small-scale privatization. Evaluation and impact on the economy of the state
7. Mass (Large-Scale) Privatization until 1994 - The privatization projects. Methods of privatization. Voucher privatization. Overall evaluation
8. Privatization after 1995 - Slowing the pace of privatization. Direct sales Privatization of banks and major enterprises of the national economy
9. The Results of Privatization and Change of Ownership - Forms of the privatization of shares. Overall impacts of privatization.
10. Banking - The development of the banking sector. Privatization and development of the insurance industry. The emergence of stock market and the capital trade.
11. Transformation of the Microeconomic Sphere - The emergence of new businesses. Restructuring of enterprises. Structural changes. Changes in employment development of individual sectors of the national economy
12. Regional Development - The influence of structural and transformational changes on the regions. The most affected regions.
13. The status and development of local governments as influenced by the transformation and structural changes.

- The elaboration of a selected topic in the range of about 5 pages. Evaluation and processing of acquired knowledge, participation in consultations.
