Course objectives
The course aims to teach the students the significance of health education and its inclusion into the system of health care. The course describes theoretical basics of health education and other selected topics which lead to change of lifestyle. After finishing the subject, the student will be able to actively perform education leading to change of lifestyle of individual groups of patients. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student acquires and demonstrates knowledge and skills in the field of support of health by keeping healthy lifestyle in particular stages of life. Professional skills: The student is able to perform effective education and provide information for detection of risks. General ability: The student is able to assess the condition of a patient and choose the best way of giving information. Competence: The student mediates needed information to individuals, families, groups, and their relatives in suitable form in regard to their competence.
Syllabus
  • 1. Health and illness - terms, definitions, basic principles. Aims of health education. Methods of health education. Support of health.
    2. Healthy lifestyle. Health and its determinants. Pro-health orientation - health care policies and strategy, new concept of health care. Preventive programs and supportive health programs, survey of quality of life, programs leading to healthy lifestyle, program SZO "Health for everyone in the 21st century".
    3. Living and working environment and its effects on health and lifestyle.
    4. Prevention of most common non-infectious diseases (ICHS, obesity, osteoporosis).
    5. Prevention of most common oncological diseases (colorectal carcinoma, breast carcinoma, cancer of lungs and skin).
    6. Diet. Physical activity. Health risk and possible interference. Preventive measures.
    7. Smoking and alcohol. Health risk and possible interference. Preventive measures.
    8. Drugs and gambling. Health risk and possible interference. Preventive measures.
    9. Stress and mental hygiene. Relaxation and significance of sleep.
    10. HIV/AIDS, venereal infections. Health risk and possible interference. Preventive measures.
