Course objectives
The course provides a basic overview concerning cultural studies of the Czech Republic in English. The main aim of the course is to inform students of geography and natural beauties, history, culture and sights of the country. The individual lectures introduce the most important natural, cultural and social attractions and main tourist destinations of particular tourist regions and areas. These include the most significant and most popular monuments of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Czech Republic. Hence, national parks, protected landscape areas, natural and biosphere reserves, monuments on the List of UNESCO Heritage, protected urban areas, religious monuments, most famous castles and chateaux, museums, technical monuments and open-air museums of folk architecture are presented. The course also helps students to widen and deepen their language skills especially in the area of understanding spoken and written English texts. The illustrative nature of the lessons is supported by visual material.
