- Course objectives
- The course aims to provide students with basic information about sociology. It introduces main trends in sociological thinking and issues which are in focus of sociological theory and sociological research. The course will teach students to understand the complex process of human socialization and formation of personality. It will explain the relation between sociology and nursing care. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to explain basic terms of sociology. Professional skills: The student is well informed about sociology in nursing care and understands the process of human socialization and its problems with integration into society. General ability: Student demonstrates knowledge acquired in theoretical lessons and in practical lessons in facilities of health and social care and is able to apply this knowledge. Competence: The studentsimprove their knowledge throughout their studies.

- Lectures:
1. Sociology as scientific discipline.
2. Sociological schools, trends, paradigms - basic overview.
3. Society and the position of an individual within it. Process of socialization, social interaction and communication.
4. Social structure and dynamics, social formations and groups.
5. The issues of culture, sacral and profane.
6. Social norms and deviation, social control.
7. Definition of medical sociology, short overview of sociological theories.
8. Sociology of patient / client, the role of sociologist in medical facilities.
Seminars:
1. Definition of health and illness, the issue of the handicapped.
2. Re-education, compensation and social rehabilitation.
3. Sociological research and studies in medicine (design and research project).
4. Sociological research and studies in medicine (data processing, interpretation and presentation of final report).
