- Course objectives
- The course provides the contemporary knowledge of organization from the sociological point of view and the contemporary knowledge of management of organization of public administration. The aim of the course is to make the students familiar with the nature of organization of the public administration as a social construction, its functioning and management. The greatest attention is paid to the nature of organization as a social construction and the individual managerial functions. After passing the course, the student is familiar with the issue of organization of public administration and its management, and understands the importance of human resources management in an organization.
- Syllabus
- 1. Organization as a social construction (acting participant at time, space, social interaction at space-time, social construction of reality, organization as a social construction).
2. Organization as a tool and structure (organization features, instrumentality, formality, organizational structure, participant and targets of organization, participant and organizational structure, participant and power in organization, communication in organization).
3. Organization as a participant (diversity of organizations, internal and external settings, total organizations).
4. Bureaucracy and formal organization (Weber, Merton, Crozier, Dahrendorf, Mayo, features of bureaucratic organization).
5. Post-bureaucracy (alternatives to bureaucracy, Heckscher´s concept of post-bureaucracy, transformation of bureaucracy to electronic form, management of transformation).
6. Organizational culture (theoretical determination of culture and organizational culture, Schein´s model of organizational culture, parameters and sources of organizational culture, subcultures in organization, types of organizational culture, organizational culture and efficiency of organization, diagnostics of organizational culture, model of change of organizational culture).
7. Decision-making in organizations (classification of decision-making, stages of decision-making process, conditions of decision-making concept, decision-making process, decision-making methods).
8. Planning in organization (strategic management and planning as a formal procedure, importance and definition of planning, types of plans, situational factors of planning, determination of aims, planning methods, planning process).
9. Organizing (organizing and the term´s meanings, organizational structure and scheme, principles of organizational design, current concepts of organizational design, main types of organizational structures, organizing as an activity - design of workplaces and model of characteristics of working activity).
10. Human resources management in organization (theory of management and styles of management of employees, manager and leader, competences of manager, power- authority - respect).
11. Work motivation management (theory of work motivation, motivation and stimulation - importance, process, methods of work motivation management, stimulation means.)
12. Controlling and audit (determination and importance of control and audit, control and audit process, types and focus of control and audit, quality of control system, situational factors in forming a control system).
