Course objectives
The students will learn the basics of theory of mass communication, the role of separate types of media and their significance in presentation of results of historical researches, their attention will be drawn to possible usage of topics from the field of modern history in the frame of political marketing and ideological influencing, on the specific examples they will learn the results of script writers and authors of media presentations of topics from the field of modern history and possibilities of usage of oral history and work with contemporary witnesses. After passing the course, the students will be more familiar with the issue of mass communication and possibilities of media presentation and popularization of historical facts.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to issue of media and medialization.
    2. Content of a term medialization in the field of presentation of results of historical researches in a frame of public relations.
    3. Critical analysis of media discourse on examples of national, political as well as cultural stereotypes supported by media and their development.
    4. Issue of medialization of historical events in relation to present day and their social consequences.
    5. Medialization of history and memory, historians as the memory bearers .
    6. Medialization of history in movies, television and radio transmission, internet servers.
    7. Medialization of history in books, magazines and newspapers .
    8. Medialization of history by means of other media - public lectures, expositions, exhibitions, posters etc.
    9. Memoires and memories, methods of oral history.
    10. Fates of historical persons.
    11. Life stories of forgotten heroes.
    12. Final summary.
