Course objectives
The course objective is to introduce to the basic types of prostheses. The course describes orthodontic materials, orthodontic appliances and orthodontic treatment. Having completed the course, students will be well versed in the basic issues of classification of oral cavity defects.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students can classify defects of the dentition.
Professional Skills: Students can define the implants in the oral cavity.
General Qualification: Students are able to treat patients with implants in the oral cavity and the prosthetics.
Competences: Having completed the course, students will be well versed in the issues of dental prosthetics and orthopedics. They will be able to educate patients in the care of prosthetic and removable orthodontic apparatuses.
Syllabus
  • 1. Classification of dentition defects by Voldřich.
  • 2. Basic types of prostheses.
  • 3. Orthodontic anomaly.
  • 4. Orthodontic apparatuses - categorization.
  • 5. Preparation of the patient for prosthetic and orthodontic treatment.
  • 6. Surgical treatment in prosthetics and orthodontics.
  • 7. Cleft defects – categorization, treatment, problems of articulation.
  • 8. Care of orthodontic apparatuses.
  • 9. removable prostheses.
  • 10. The importance of aesthetics in the design and treatment of orthodontic defects.
  • 11. Problems of articulation, TMK diseases and prosthetic treatment. Bandage splints.
  • 12. Kinds and types of implants, care of them in the oral cavity.
  • 13. The role of the dental hygienist during the patient’s orthodontic treatment (before, during and after treatment).
