Course objectives
The course objective is to acquaint students with the function of the orofacial system, pathological conditions, basics of diagnosis and therapy of diseases of the orofacial system, specific terminology. The course builds on knowledge from anatomy, physiology and pathology of the orofacial system.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students can define concepts from anatomy, physiology and pathology of the orofacial system, they know the content of the field of maxillofacial surgery from the point of view of diagnostics, pathologies and therapy.
Professional Skills: Students can use expert terminology.
General Qualification: Students are well versed in the terminology and use acquired knowledge in practice.
Competences: Students will be able to estimate the most common pathological changes in the orofacial system.
Syllabus
  • 1. Topographic anatomy of the head and neck - significance for the field. Risk patient in maxiofacial surgery.
  • 2. Dentoalveolar surgery - introduction, anesthesia, incision, extraction, implantology.
  • 3. Diseases of the maxillary joint, introduction to diagnosis and therapy.
  • 4. Obstructive sleep apnea in adults from the point of view of maxillofacial surgery.
  • 5. Injuries of childhood and their consequences, the importance of dentition for the overall health of the child.
  • 6. Diseases of the salivary glands.
  • 7. Origin, diagnosis and treatment of inflammation in the orofacial region.
  • 8. Focal infections.
  • 9. Diagnosis and treatment of cysts in the orofacial region.
  • 10. Traumatology of the splanchnocranium.
  • 11. Maxillary anomalies and their treatment.
  • 12. Treatment of tumors in the orofacial region.
  • 13. Fundamentals of dentoalveolar surgery, inflammation, cysts, precancerous and cancerous tumors in the orofacial region, diseases of the lymph nodes of the salivary glands, injuries to the jaws and face.
