Course objectives
The course objective is to provide a detailed presentation of one of the fundamental pillars of social policy theory which is formed by the interrelated concepts of social exclusion and social inclusion.Students will be acquainted with the development of both concepts which was preceded by a definition of the terms of marginalization, inequality and poverty.The course will accent the causes of social exclusion and its most important dimensions.Social inclusion will be addressed on the plane of its general definition and theory of inclusive strategies.Indicators of social inclusion will also be presented.As part of the institute’s interconnection of social policy and social work, a separate lecture will be setting forth understanding of social exclusion and inclusion in the field of social work.The emphasis will be placed on the application level of social inclusion.Students will be introduced to real examples of the application of social inclusion policies in the form of measures targeting specific groups that are in a situation of social exclusion (or facing its threat).
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge:
Students gain expertise in issues of social exclusion and social inclusion in a historical and contemporary context.They will be able to understand the theoretical concepts that deal with these issues, and will be able to formulate measures which both on the theoretical and practical level lead to social inclusion of people who are in disadvantaged position in the society.

General Qualification
Building on previous knowledge from courses focused on social policy, students gain more theoretical knowledge they can use in the professional or managerial positions in the field of social policy and social services.

  • 6.Political dimension of social exclusion and its factors.
  • 7.Spatial dimension of social exclusion and its factors.
  • 8.Definition of social inclusion and inclusive strategy theory.
  • 9.Social inclusion in domestic and international programming documents.
  • 10.Social inclusion in the field of social work and social inclusion indicators.
  • 11.Social inclusion in practice, examples of application in selected target groups.
