Course objectives
The course is aimed at gaining both theoretical and practical information, knowledge and skills about the application of various leisure activities for people with disabilities. Students’ work will focus on sports and artistic leisure activities in connection with various types of disabilities - mental, physical, sensory. The course also includes acquaintance with selected compensatory aids within the training apartment and the topic of continuous removal of various barriers in the life of a person with a disability.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes achieved:
Students can describe and characterize the types of leisure-time activities for different groups of people with disabilities.
Students understand the importance of leisure time for every human life.
Students can evaluate the positive and negative effects of individual leisure-time activities on the basis of the information provided with regard to selected groups of disabled persons.
Students can use selected information to implement, organize and plan leisure-time activities for groups of disabled persons.
Syllabus
  • The function and essence of leisure activities in the lives of people with disabilities.
  • Barriers in the life of a person with a disability. History of barrier and history of the first compensatory aids in the practice of the Czech Republic and abroad.
  • Leisure activities of people with disabilities, their possibilities and specifics.
  • Leisure activities of people with sensory disabilities - hearing and sight, their possibilities and specifics.
  • Leisure activities of people with mental disabilities, their possibilities and specifics.
  • Compensatory and rehabilitation aids and their goals and focus, differentiation for people with disabilities. Practical context of providing quality compensation aids.
  • A person with a physical disability and a person with a severe multiple disability and their needs to use compensatory and rehabilitation aids during the day, practice in a training apartment and practical training in the handling of aids.
Assessment methods
80% participation of students in seminars, elaboration and presentation of assignments given by the instructor as the requirement of passing the course. Credits are awarded on the basis of continuous performance of assignments.
