Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the functioning of the labor market from the point of view of the implemented employment policy in the Czech Republic and selected countries of the European Union, to present selected (EU) labor markets and, on the example of a few, to explain the fundamental strategy applied in the fight against unemployment and social exclusion. Attention is focused on the analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of the active employment policy, demographic impacts on the state of the workforce. The issue of migration and migration policy is also part of the study. A partial goal is to further teach students to work with domestic and foreign sources on the chosen topic, to work with literature, to present processed topics, to defend their opinions in a discussion.
Learning outcomes
The condition for passing the course is the completion of a semester's work and the completion of a written exam. Preparation and defense of a seminar paper (minimum 7 pages) on a selected topic, intermediate test. Active participation in seminars (80%), consultation on selected topics.

  • ntroduction to the subject: definition of the aim and content of the subject, familiarization with literature and sources, definition of some terms and context 2. Legislation (laws, decrees, directives). 3. Labor market and employment policy in the Czech Republic 4. Labor market and employment policy in EU countries. 5. Unemployment, the rights and obligations of the unemployed, the role of the ÚP 6. Active and passive instruments of employment policy in the Czech Republic 7. Demographic and population situation, impacts on the state and level of the workforce in the economy 8. Quality of the workforce, human capital 9. Labor market and employment policy, its solutions, long-term unemployment among selected groups of the population. 10. Migration, migration policy. 11. Foreigners on the labor market in the Czech Republic 12. Changes in the European labor market. 13. Current problems on the labor markets in the Czech Republic and the EU, summary
Assessment methods
An electronic study support with assigned tasks is intended and prepared for teaching. The condition for passing the course is the completion of a semester's work and the completion of an oral exam. The student has the possibility to consult regularly according to the agreement, or electronic consultation is possible.
