Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the selected European (Union) job markets and on example of some of them approximate fundamental strategy used when combating unemployment. The students will follow already realized course of Labour Market and Employment Policy in bachelor form of study. The attention will be paid to analysis of social policy but mainly on some selected job markets, on evaluation of effectiveness of their active employment policy. Indispensable part comprises also analysis of economic conception of EU which in such a way is reflected on increase or decrease of unemployment.

  • 1. Introduction to the course: delimitation of the course target and content, introduction of literature and resources, classification of some concepts and links, connection to already passed course in bachelor study
    2. EU economic policy
    3. EU social policy: integration grades, 4 freedoms
    4. Legislative frame: Maastricht, Amsterdam Treaty, Nice, Barcelona, Lisbon strategy, White book
    5. Employment policy in EU countries: examples the Czech republic, Poland, Great Britain, Germany
    6. Examples of active employment policy in EU countries
    7. Old and new EU countries and job market
    8. Lisbon
    9. Job market and employment policy in EU countries: long-term unemployment in selected groups of inhabitants
    10. Women unemployment: issue of unemployment of women of middle-age, regional women unemployment
    11. Admission of 10 new countries into 15 EU countries and so called transitional periods
    12. Importance of structural policy on development of European job market
