Course objectives
The course Psychopathology is intended for orientation of students in the area of mental disorders. The aim of the course is to give theoretical knowledge of distinction of normality and psychical health of a man and to introduce basic division and specification of mental disorders. It describes the occurrence of diseases, their clinical symptoms and prognosis of a disease. The centre of the work in tutorials will be laid down on analysis of case reports from long-term practice of the lecturer on which the theoretical knowledge of causes, symptoms and impacts of mental diseases and disorders will be demonstrated. The students will also learn about possibilities of treatment and re-socialization. The student is provided with knowledge of developed means of work with target group, is lead to get knowledge of psychopathology which can use when meeting clients in the area of social work. We develop knowledge of bachelor study courses: Psychology in PA and especially Consultancy in PA and Communication, the effort is the cohesion with courses of master study Social Gerontology, Social Problems from the Gender Aspect. The requirements on student will be increased by self-study. The course is conceived in such a way that it contributes to wider possibilities of advanced consultancy work with target groups.

  • 1. Introduction to course. Normality. The causes of mental diseases - genetic, prenatal, perinatal, post-natal. The attitudes to mentally ill persons.
    2. Classification systems of mental disorders and behaviour disorders - symptom, syndrome, disorder, disease.
    3. General part I - disorders of perception, attention and consciousness
    4. General part II - disorders of thought, memory, emotions and will and performance
    5. Organic mental disorders
    6. Neurotic disorders
    7. Psychoses
    8. Mental diseases evoked by effect of psychoactive substances

Cohesion of theoretical knowledge as well as expression of one´s own opinion during own presentation of chosen topic and active participation in interactively lead tutorials.
Written test aimed at testing theoretical knowledge ( mental health, normality of personality, orientation in basic division of mental disorders).
