Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the characteristics of integration processes with special focus on development of European integration, with focus on European Union. The target is to provide the characteristics of political, economic, social changes in Europe after World War II which had lead to current form of EU - as one of the greatest European integration formation. Theoretical approaches to integration tendencies. Pluses and minuses (advantages and disadvantages) of economic integration. Integration processes in the period between two wars. Renewal of post-war destroyed Europe (Marshall plan, NATO, Comecon, Warsaw Pact etc.) Examples of functioning of integration formations in the world, in Europe (economic, military). Genesis of European communities (1950 Monetary Union, 1957 Euroatom, EEC), characteristic of EU institutions.

  • 1. Introduction of the issue
    2. Europe at the end of the World War II - Crym conference (February 1945), Postupim conference, Churchill and his opinion on united Europe, UN
    3. State of some countries (selected) of western and central Europe, divided Germany (4 occupational zones), images regarding further development and especially Germany
    4. Help for post- war destroyed Europe (World War II) - post-war help from America and other countries - UNPRA, help of Soviet Union (war booty, food)
    5. Marshall plan - genesis of plan, Truman doctrine, help for Europe against left-wing policy
    6. Impact of Marshall plan on forming of Europe - division of Europe, so called iron curtain, NATO, Comecon, Warsaw Pact, Council of Europe
    7. Beginnings of genesis of European integration (beginnings of integration process), types of integrations, Shuman plan, Jean Monnet, European Coal and Steel Community, European Economic Community, European Atomic Energy Community, European Free Trade Association)
    8. Integration dynamics of western Europe (1952-1973)
    9. Eastern Europe after 1985
    10.
