The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
LECTURE The course defines the main areas of general psychology, basic psychological theory of knowledge. The goal is to provide students with basic knowledge of general psychology, to acquaint students with the basic concepts used in the characterization of individual mental processes, psychological states and mental characteristics. Teaching will be focused particularly on cognitive processes such as attention, memory, thinking, intelligence, creativity and learning. Knowledge of these basic concepts and characteristics to help them understand the problems of human mental life and create a theoretical basis for further studies disciplines of applied psychology and pedagogy. An integral part of the course are additional seminars. SEMINAR The course complements the series of lectures on general psychology. The aim is to teach students to analyze a topic, actively and independently seek information on a selected topic that relates to contemporary psychological views.
Syllabus
  • LECTURE
    1st Psychology - the subject and objective psychological disciplines. The status of science in psychology. Ethical problems of contemporary psychology.
    2nd Methods of psychological research.
    3rd Basic concepts of general psychology (psyche, mental contents, processes and states, behavior and feelings).
    4th Determination of human psyche.
    5th Consciousness - Functions of consciousness, altered states of consciousness. The unconscious, subconscious, preconscious . Sleep and wakefulness.
    6th Attention - types of attention, the characteristics of attention, attention deficit disorder.
    7th Sensation - the general characteristics of the sensory organs, sensory thresholds, Weber's and Fechner - Weber's law.
    8th Perception - a basic characteristic of the process, a constant perception, perceptual organization field, stereoscopic vision (monocular and binocular clues), motion perception, perceptual illusions.
    9th Learning - Factors affecting the learning process, genetically programmed learning, classical conditioning, operant conditioning, insight learning, social learning theory.
    10th Memory - the process definition, types of memory, organization of data in long term memory, forgetting process.
    11th Imagination - definitions, types of ideas, ways of equipping, imaginative concepts (types, methods of production).
    12th Thinking - basic forms of thinking, the notion of (definite and indefinite), the kind of thinking, thinking skills, reasoning, factors influencing the solution of problems.
    13th Intelligence - the types of intelligence, intelligence quocient Gaza, emotional intelligence. Creativity.
    14th Motivation and needs. Basic types of themes. Maslow's pyramid of needs (latest revision). Needs needs. Theory of motivation.
    15th Emotions - the basic components of emotions, types of emotions, emotions function. Aggression - defining the basic concepts, types of aggression, aggression theory.
    SEMINAR
    1st The assumptions of psychology as a separate science .
    2nd Behaviorism and neobehaviorism, basic characteristics of the direction of John Broadus Watson, Edward Lee Thorndike, Burrhus Frederic Skinner.
    3rd Gestaltism - basic characteristics of the direction, leaders Wolfgang Köhler and Kurt Lewin.
    4th Sigmund Freud - the basic postulates of his theory, the concept of psychosexual development, topographical and structural model of the human psyche.
    5th Alfred Adler and Individual Psychology.
    6th Carl Gustav Jung and analytical psychology.
    7th Cultural psychoanalysis - Karen Horney, Erich Fromm.
    8th Humanistic psychology - Carl Rogers and the main principles of its therapy.
    9th Viktor Emil Frankl and logotherapy.
    10th Cognitive psychology.
