Course objectives
The aim of the course is to make the students familiar with a modern history of Slovenia and provide them with comparison to the region of Central Europe and states of a former Yugoslavia. The course deals with the main developmental tendencies and issues of political, economic, social and national development of Slovenia. The course is focused on a process of formation of the Slovene nation, aspirations of the front Slovenian political representatives in modern history, a position of Slovenes in Austria-Hungary, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and Yugoslavia. In the lectures, there are explained the fundamental factors which influenced the political development of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia where the emphasis is put on Slovenia. The course deals with a highly complicated coexistence of individual Yugoslavian republics and autonomous areas, their troublesome cooperation with federal bodies of a common state union and main factors which led to disintegration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The route of Slovenia to the independence is analysed in detail. The final part of the course is dedicated to the development of political and party system of Slovenia.

    7. Slovenia during the Second World War.
    8. Yugoslavia in years 1945-1980, development of Slovenia.
    9. The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia after death of Josip Broz Tito.
    10. Development of Slovenia after 1980.
    11. Route of Slovenia to independence.
    12. Political, economic and social development of Slovenia after 1990.
