- Course objectives
- LECTURE The course defines the main areas of general psychology, basic psychological theory of knowledge. The goal is to provide students with basic knowledge of general psychology, to acquaint students with the basic concepts used in the characterization of individual mental processes, psychological states and mental characteristics. Lectures are a set of theoretical knowledge assembled in a system. After completion of this course students should acquire skills enabling them to think in a complex way about clients in a certain context applying their knowledge of social pathology and its prevention. The content of lectures forms the basis for subsequent courses of applied psychology and pedagogy. SEMINAR The course complements the series of lectures on general psychology. The aim is to teach students to analyze a topic, actively and independently seek information on a selected topic that relates to contemporary psychological views. The students can within the seminar use practical forms of group work for more efficient self-reflection, experiencing a model situations and practicing skills based on good understanding of human psychical condition. Furthermore, the subject extends the topics of lectures with a goal to teach students to analyze certain topics and actively and independently search information for a selected subject. These given topics are complementary and specify individual fields of individuals psychical states in more detail. Students will select a topic which they will study from common subject-related literature, and process them as a seminar work and will discuss this topic in the course of a seminar.
- Syllabus
- 1. Psychology - the subject and objective psychological disciplines. The status of science in psychology. Ethical problems of contemporary psychology. Methods of psychological research. Basic concepts of general psychology (psyche, mental contents, processes and states, behavior and feelings). Determination of human psyche.
2. Consciousness - Functions of consciousness, altered states of consciousness. The unconscious, subconscious, preconscious . Sleep and wakefulness. Attention - types of attention, the characteristics of attention, attention deficit disorder.
3. Sensation - the general characteristics of the sensory organs, sensory thresholds, Weber's and Fechner - Weber's law. Perception - a basic characteristic of the process, a constant perception, perceptual organization field, stereoscopic vision (monocular and binocular clues), motion perception, perceptual illusions.
4. Learning - Factors affecting the learning process, genetically programmed learning, classical conditioning, operant conditioning, insight learning, social learning theory.
5. Memory - the process definition, types of memory, organization of data in long term memory, forgetting process. Imagination - definitions, types of ideas, ways of equipping, imaginative concepts (types, methods of production).
6. Thinking - basic forms of thinking, the notion of (definite and indefinite), the kind of thinking, thinking skills, reasoning, factors influencing the solution of problems.
7. Intelligence - the types of intelligence, intelligence quocient Gaza, emotional intelligence. Creativity.
8. Motivation and needs. Basic types of themes. Maslow's pyramid of needs (latest revision). Theory of motivation.
9. Emotions - the basic components of emotions, types of emotions, emotions function. Aggression - defining the basic concepts, types of aggression, aggression theory.
10. Personality. Inner and outer sources of shaping and personality development. Concept of "me", creation and development of "me" consciousness, components, defensive mechanisms.
11. Endogenous and exogenous personality theory. Personality typology. Summary of the main constitutional and psychological personality typology.
12. Structure of personality. Psychological characteristics of personality. Conflict, frustration, anxiety,ways to address frustrating situations.
