Course objectives
The course is conceived as theoretical course. It is based on goals of the National Health Program. It provides pivotal information on hygiene and epidemiology related to public health protection and support, on prevention of occurrence and spreading and on restriction of occurrence of infectious diseases, on mass-occurrence diseases, on occupational illnesses and other important health impairments. It acquaints the students with general epidemiology and epidemiological work methods, prevention of nosocomial infections, issues of drug addiction, its hazards, prevention and treatment and subsequent care in case of addiction.
Syllabus
  • 1. Position of hygiene in the system of individual and community health sciences.
    2. Fields of hygiene, organizational scheme of hygiene services and hygiene care.
    3. Hygiene of the environment, knowledge and estimation of hazardous factors. Environment protection including legislation.
    4. Occupational medicine. Definitions and contents, hazardous factors of work environment, their assessment and biological impact. Principles of primary and secondary prevention.
    5. Hygiene of children and adolescents. General sanitary requirements on facilities for children and adolescents. Health risks for children and adolescents, prevention potential.
    6. Hygiene of nutrition. Principles of well-balanced diet. Nutrition of specific groups of people.
    7. Basic principles of epidemiological work method.
    Basic principles of general and special epidemiology of infectious diseases. Routes of infection transmission.

Teacher's information
The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have the opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
The credit is conditioned by successful credit test; cut-off score: 80%. Independent preparation based on studying of recommended reading will be continuously checked within individual tutorials.
