Course objectives
The course is aimed at acquainting the students with findings and skills in the field of nursing care for patients in a dialysis program. Having finished the course, the students have a good grasp of the issues of nursing of patients in a dialysis program and they will be able to provide nursing care to dialyzed patients.
Syllabus
  • 1. Overview of blood purifying methods. Nursing care for patient with continual haemodialysis. Record keeping.
    2. Technical prerequisites of haemodialysis.
    3. Securing of vascular accesses and nursing care.
    4. Nutrition of patients in haemodialysis program. Patients' / clients' bio-psycho-social problems.
    5. Sanitary and epidemiological regime of nephrological wards.
    6. Nursing care for patients / clients suffering from diabetes mellitus at haemodialysis. Nursing care for patient with peritoneal dialysis.
    7. Education of patients / clients and their relatives.
    8. Transplantation of kidneys.
    9. Psycho-social attitude towards dialyzed patients.

The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have the opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
Credit requirements: written test, cut-off score: 80 %.
