Course objectives
In the introduction to the course, nursing is specified as a field of science with its own subject of research, theoretical models, standard terminology and classification systems and methodology. What follows is a chapter showing how to formulate a research problem, a research question and research goals. The chapter Quantitative Research is focused mainly on mastering of basic research techniques - standardized tests and scales, on principles of making of original questionnaires and their first and second stages of assessment. The chapter Qualitative Research provides knowledge about basic techniques of quantitative data collection - interview, monitoring, document analysis, case report sets. It instructs students how to assess quantitative data by means of a cluster formation method, grounded theory, matrix formation etc. The aim of this course is to present fundamentals of scientific methods of the field to students of nursing and to teach them to draft and execute as well as assess a simple empiric research in clinical nursing.
