- Course objectives
- The course is conceived as theoretical-practical and as a profiling course for the midwifery practitioner. Course content includes basic skills of nursing and midwifery. Instruction is implemented by way of training in specialized classrooms and enables the acquirement of basic manual dexterity for midwifery procedures.
- Learning outcomes
- Professional Knowledge: Students can identify the individual needs of clients
Professional Skills: Students master the manual skills for the performance of professional midwifery
General Qualification: Student are qualified to perform nursing care of women
Competences: Student can independently perform in midwifery procedures under supervision - Syllabus
- 1. Providing a safe environment, department equipment, safety devices in the hospital (signaling devices). Standards of specialist procedures.
- 2. Prevention of infection, hand-washing, use of gloves, patient isolation, care of tools, disinfection, sterilization. Promoting activities of patients, mobilization, examination and treatment position. Reception, transfer and release of patient, ward round.
- 3. Hygienic care, practice of inpatient hygienic care, care of beds, bedside equipment, oral care, hair care, nails, feet. Preventing pressure ulcers, positioning.
- 4. Nutrition intake - feeding patients, assisting in feeding a patient with dysphagia, weight monitoring, weighing, monitoring of food and fluids intake, enteral nutrition, introduction of nasogastric and orogastric probe. Diet system.
- 5. Vital functions - measuring physiological functions: body temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation measurements.
- 6. Excretion - administering bedpans, catheterization, fluid balance, enema, micro enema.
- 7. Sampling of biological material.
- 8. Medication - orally, topically, to the eye and ear, inhalation, suppositories, oxygen therapy.
