Course objectives
The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical one. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic concepts of general and developmental psychology, leading them to an understanding of the basic psychological phenomena and their potential reflection in working with patients. Having completed the course, students will be well versed in developmental theories and characteristics of each ontogenic persiod. They will be able to understand the manifestations of the behaviour of clients of all ages.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students can describe and explain the various psychological disciplines and navigate developmental psychology in different age groups. Students are able to define concepts of psychological disciplines. They understand verbal and non-verbal expressions of the client is are able to respond to them adequately.
Professional Skills: Students are able to understand the client’s situations of stress.
General Qualification: Students are able to decide independently and choose the right type of communication and psychological approach to individual clients responsibly.
Competences: Student can provide individuals, families, groups and their relatives with relevant information in an appropriate form. They can exert adequate influence on the clients. They can understand their behaviour.

  • 1.Psychology as a scientific discipline - definition, subject, goals, position of psychology in the system of sciences, structure of psychological disciplines. 2.Methodology of psychological research - methodology, scientific methods, hypotheses, definitions, scientific method, conditions and phases of psychological research, research approaches, research methods. 3. Basic concepts of general psychology - psyche, experience, mental process, mental content, mental state, behavior. 4.Determination of the human psyche - internal determinants of development, external determinants of development. 5.Consciousness - definition, degrees and functions, typology of lucidity, sleep, subconscious, preconscious, unconscious. 6.Attention - definition, subject, neurophysiological basis, meaning, conditions, types, properties, attention disorders. 7. Sensory processes - definitions, analyzers, thresholds, characteristics of basic analyzers and types of sensations. 8.Perception - definition, types, types, factors, signs, perception of space and movement, organization of the perceptual field, sensory illusions. 9.Learning - definition, function, factors, types. 10.Memory - definition, meaning, assumptions, factors, properties, memory process, basic types of memory, forgetting and its causes, memory disorders. 11. Imagination - definition, idea. 12. Thinking - definition, characteristics, types, kinds, forms, thought operations, problem solving. 13.Developmental psychology, subject, goals, position in the system of sciences. 14. The concept of mental development, basic forms, factors and mechanisms of development, developmental theories. 15.Prenatal period and neonatal period. 16. Infant age and toddler age. 17.Preschool age, school maturity and immaturity. 18. Younger school age. 19. Older school age - prepuberty and puberty. 20.Adolescence. 21. The period of young, middle and older adulthood. 22. The period of old age.
