Knowledge of the specifics of communication with seniors, knowledge and skills of using appropriate communication strategies, active listening skills and conducting an interview with the seniors.

Course objectives
The aim of the subject Communication with Seniors II. is the deepening of students' knowledge and communication skills in social communication with the seniors. The lecture cycle deals with group communication with seniors and the development of their communication skills, prevention and resolution of conflicts with seniors, communication strategies with demanding types of seniors, specifics of communication with the senior in palliative care and communication with relatives of seniors. Theoretical knowledge will be transposed into practice.
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge: The student knows and understands the group dynamics processes for group work with senior citizens, knows the concepts for developing their communication skills, knows the causes of the origin and the mechanisms of conflict resolution, knows the seniors and appropriate communication strategies. The student knows the specifics of communication and desirable communication procedures in the field of palliative care. Professional skills: The student is able to use efficient means of communication in individual and group work with seniors, to take into account the specifics of the target group and to adequately develop the communication skills of seniors. He is able to solve the causes of the conflicts and to prevent conflicts, thus minimizing the negative impact on seniors and their surroundings. Students are able to communicate with demanding seniors and choose effective communication strategies. The student can choose appropriate communication strategies with senior palliative care and is able to communicate with relatives of senior. The student applies the acquired information and skills in practice. He is able to link the acquired knowledge with the needs and requirements in its practice. General competence: The student is able to communicate with different types of seniors, including demanding types, and choose a suitable strategy for dealing with conflicts. The student is competent to work with an individual and a group of seniors, is capable of communicating with the senior and his / her relatives in palliative care.

  • 1. Differences in communication with the individual and with the group. Group work with seniors.
    2. Developing the communication skills of seniors.
    3. Conflicts with seniors, prevention and solutions.
    4. Demanding types of seniors, causes and characteristics (aggressive, anxious, closed, etc.).
    5. Suitable communication strategies with demanding types of seniors.
    6. Palliative care - specifics of communication.
    7. Communication with relatives of the senior.

Written elaboration of control tasks and questions from study support Communication with seniors II. according to the instructor's instructions. Written work is in the range of min. 5 pages. Consultation takes place within the framework of teaching. Credit - Written assignment via elearning two weeks before the end of the semester and individual oral interview on the content of the written work.
